June 1, 2024 Core Curriculum – TTP/Upgrading – Surya Namaskar & Tantra/Mantra w/Karen Hamdon


Saturday, June 1st, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM (w/ 1 hr break).

Core Curriculum Classes offer cost-effective training and mentorship with YAA Senior Teachers and hours can be counted towards all YAA Training Programs including the Immersion Program, Teacher Training, Equivalency Certification, Recertification or Advanced Training Levels.  The sequence of classes repeats every two years and new students may join in on any date.  All welcome!

Core Curriculum Class Topic:  Surya Namaskar

Asana: Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and variations;  Related physiology, preparations, counter/equalizing poses, variations, benefits, contraindications and safety issues.

Theory: Tantra Overview; Mantra – Chanting as a gate to open the breath/quiet the mind

Pranayama: Ujjayi (Victorious)

About the Teacher: Karen Hamdon has been a student of yoga for 40 years and is a Permanent Senior Teacher through the Yoga Association of Alberta. She received her training in Traditional Hatha Yoga from Friedel Khattab through the Khattab School of Yoga. In Karen’s class you will explore asana, pranayama and meditation. She has been teaching for 21 years and taking groups to India (almost annually) for 15 years. Her intention is to share this precious ancient wisdom called Yoga in ways that honour her teachers and benefit others.
